WHEATLAND – On Monday, Wheatland High School hosted Guernsey-Sunrise JV and C-teams for a double header with the Bulldogs C-team. WHS won both matches.
On Friday, WHS volleyball teams traveled to Torrington to take on the Trailblazers for their first conference match of the season. All three levels came home with victories. The JV match was a dog fight with the second set ending 37-35, the highest score head coach Sally Nichols said she’s seen in a volleyball match.
The varsity was a three-set grind ending in scores of: 25-15, 25-23, 25-21. The Lady Bulldogs handled the first set with ease, but the second set began with a 12-4 lead in favor of Torrington. WHS kept grinding out one point at a time and were able to overcome the Trailblazers. In set three, the Bulldogs were in control down the stretch with a small push in the teens from Torrington, but WHS finished with a 25-21 total.

Statistic highlights: Gavrielle Dawson had 12 kills, two aces, and eight digs; Camryn Mickelsen had 29 assists and two aces; Desirae Iacovetto had seven kills and two blocks; Halle Mickelsen had five kills; Ayden Coates had five kills; Ella Keil had 12 digs; and Delaney Aurich had five digs and one ace.
Saturday, WHS hosted the Broncs from Burns for their second conference match. Burns only has 12 players in the program, so the C-team did not play. WHS JV finished a 2-0 victory, and the varsity came out on top 3-0: 25-6, 25-10, 25-10.
Highlights for the match: Dawson had eight kills, eight digs, and one ace; C. Mickelsen had 23 assists and three aces; Iacovetto had six kills and two blocks; Coates had seven kills; Keil had six digs and two aces; Aurich had five digs and one ace; and Ashlyn Streets had three aces.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 16-4 and 2-0 in conference play for the season. This week Wheatland will host Glenrock for their Homecoming matches on Friday at 2, 3, and 4 p.m. Saturday they will travel to Rawlins for matches at 11, 12, and 1 p.m.
