WHEATLAND – Wheatland High School hosted their home cross country meet at Lewis Park, eight teams in total competed. Cheyenne South, Douglas, Ft. Washakie, Pine Bluffs, Rawlins, Rock River, Saratoga, and the home team Wheatland ran on Friday.
The course is one of the best in the state featuring a tough hill near the baseball fields, a meandering trail along the irrigation ditch, and pavement winding through the park. Spectators are able to get multiple views of their runners as they push through the somewhat challenging terrain and accelerate when the path is flat and manageable. The WHS band and cheer team were present to enhance the experience and exude Bulldog pride.
On the girls’ side, Raelynn Goff earned her first high school victory, after a great middle school career and a solid start to her varsity season, she crossed the line at 21:39.10.
Hannah Lee also finished in the top ten, with ninth place and a time of 23:54.10. Kaelyn Wessel crossed the line at 25:03.50, and Taylor Gudahl finished at 26:04.90.
There were also two top ten finishes on the boys side with Gavin May in eight place at 19:26.50 and Justin Cecil in tenth with a time of 19:35.70.
Tylen Foland finished in 12th at 19:49.00 and Tyler Murray in thirteenth at 19.56.50. Aiden Megeath placed 34th with a time of 23:18.60 and Teddy Sarad was 35th with a time of 24:20.30. Lathan Reiman was 37th crossing the finish line at 26:47.70 and Brady Donnelly came in 38th at 30:09.80.
Coach Colt Goff said, “We had a great home race this week, and we especially want to thank all the parents, community members and administration that helped it go off smoothly.”
