DWYER – Approximately 960 acres of grassland burned early on Monday before fire crews were able to contain the fire. Two separate fires were reported approximately the same time at Dwyer and Wendover. The Wendover fire merged into the northeast corner of the Dwyer fire before both were officially contained mid-morning.
Platte County fire warden Aaron Clark said 27 engines from Platte County wildland fire crews plus five from Goshen County were sent to battle the blaze, and they were all needed, because the fire was “running pretty fast.” Ten structures were threatened and Dwyer residents were ordered to be evacuated, but were allowed to return home within a couple hours. No structures were damaged in the fire.
At least four electric poles were burned through and leaning from the fire damage, but Wheatland Rural Electric Association crews were on-scene to replace them immediately after the fire.
