WHEATLAND — The Platte County Historical Society will host Wyoming author and historian, Rick Ewig, at the Platte County Library on Tuesday, September 24th beginning at 7 p.m. “Too Big to Talk About: The Crash and Recovery of UAL 409.”
Sixty-Nine years ago, on October 6, 1955, United Airlines Flight 409 crashed into the side of Medicine Bow Peak west of Laramie. Sixty-six people died that day, making it one of worst airline disaster in the history of the country.
Rick will share details about why the crash happened, and the extreme rescue efforts that followed. He said, “The terrain and the weather made the rescue effort even more difficult.”
The Platte County Historical Society is a chapter of the Wyoming Historical Society. Membership includes receiving Annals of Wyoming three times a year, Wyoming History News, notices of special events such as treks to historic sites, award opportunities, and more.
