BUFFALO – The Wyoming State Golf Association hosted a Junior Golf Tournament at the Buffalo Country Club this past week on July 8 and 9. A total of eight local golfers competed in the two-day,18-hole round tournament. The top three golfers in each division earned various amounts of pro-shop credit.
Day one the course proved to be tough because the greens were fast and difficult to read. Day two the course seemed to be more manageable with different pin placements and golfers adjusting to the course conditions. The weather was great both days with warm temperatures and little wind.
Jaylen Kaufman won on the girls’ side in the 10-14 Flight posting a winning score of 88-89 for a 177 total. Lily Nichols placed second in the girls 15-18 Flight, shooting a 91-82 for a 173 two round total. Halie Nelson shot a 95-92 for a 187 total, and good for third place. All three gals earned pro-shop credit for their efforts on the links.
Dylan Nelson (tied for eighth), Brecken Sandlian (tied for 12th) and Matthew Wakkuri (14th) competed in the boys’ 15-18 Flight. While Hayden Unrein (third) and Bryden Sandlian (fourth) competed in the 10-12 Flight.
The next available tournament for our local junior golfers will be hosted by Douglas on July 22nd.
