Post 10 Lobos baseball team now 2-5

WHEATLAND—The Wheatland American Legion Post 10 Lobos baseball team took their record to 2-5, splitting a pair of home games on May 12.

Nolan Schaffner collected three single hits in the first, fourth and sixth innings to help his Lobos defeat B & C Steel 7-3 at Lewis Park. He scored twice and picked up one RBI.

Wheatland scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning, added another three in the fourth and picked up another in the sixth. B & C scored one in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Ayden Lind went two for three and knocked in two runs. Mason Collar drove in a run as well. Wheatland amassed 10 hits, Schaffer had two stolen bases and the defense turned one double play in the game.

Beckett Graves was the opening pitcher for the Lobos, striking out four and walking two. They gave up two hits and three runs (two earned) over six innings. Lorenzo Rojo pitched one inning in relief.  

In their second game of the day, the Lobos had a tough time keeping up with Platte Valley Companies from Gering (NE) who prevailed 12-1. 

Platte Valley scored in the first but the Lobos answered in the second to tie it up. Platte Valley pushed four more runs across in the fourth inning, added two more in the fourth and capped it off in the sixth with five more.

Schaffner was two for two at the plate and Cooper Meyer drove in Wheatland’s lone run.

Collar was the starting Lobos pitcher, allowing no hits and four runs (one earned) over two and one-third innings. He struck out three and walked six.

Braden Nilsson pitched three innings in relief, surrendering two hits and five runs (zero earned) while striking out three and walking one.

The Lobos will head to Douglas on May 23 for a doubleheader with the Bearcats.  Games are set for 5 and 7 p.m.  

On May 24, they’ll face a Kearney, NE team at Gering starting at 3 p.m. followed by a game against Gering set to begin at 5:30 p.m.

On May 25, they’ll host Cheyenne at Lewis Park for a 2:30 p.m. game and a second game that day (opponent not yet determined at press time) that will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Members of this year’s Lobos team include Ayden Lind, Beckett Graves, Braden Nilsson, Cooper Meyer, Grady Bohlander, Grant Goodrich, Jacob McDaniel, Kenny Raser, Lee Raser, Lorenzo Rojo, Mason Collar, Nolan Schaffner and Simon May. The coaching staff includes Adam Suko, Myles Hixson and Shane Schaffner.
