Lobos finish season short of State playoffs

TORRINGTON – On July 20th the Lobos traveled to Torrington to take on the Tigers in a doubleheader. Class A had a new format this year that teams would play a series of three if needed. Thus, the Lobos were faced with a must-win: if they took at least one game from Torrington they would force a third game on Sunday. Unfortunately, the Tigers held on to both games, taking the first 5-3 and the second 12-2, ending the Lobos 2024 season.
The first game was going in favor of Wheatland Post 10 as they were in the lead 3-2 through the second inning, yet the Tigers scored two in the third and finished with one more run in the fifth to seal the victory.
“Wheatland did pretty well in the first game – it was a real nail-biter,” Torrington Telegram Sportswriter, Robert Galbreath, said of how well-matched the teams were.
The Lobos had to make a run at the second game to stay alive in Districts. The third inning was a struggle as Torrington scored seven runs, which included eight walks and three errors by the Lobos. The second win of the day punched the Tigers’ ticket to state.
