Graves takes first at state in trap shooting; headed to National High School Rodeo

ROCK SPRINGS – Wheatland High School senior Jessie Graves came out on top in a head-to-head trap shooting competition at the Wyoming High School Rodeo state finals in Rock Springs over the weekend.
During the state competition, Graves added 15 points to her season score, coming away with the state title with 66 points. She overshot the competition in Bricen Baktamarian of Cheyenne, who ended the year with 64. Actual scoring for the state competition had Jessie Graves shooting a 96.5 for 15 points, Kael Lissman of Cheyenne shooting a 96 for 13.5 points and Wyatt Holland of Clearmont taking third with a 91.

Graves will represent Wyoming at National High School Rodeo Association Trap Shooting Competition July 14 – 20 in Rock Springs. Shooting performances are scheduled to start 8 a.m. July 18 and 19 at the Sweetwater Trap Club.
Rylee Griffis made it into the state leader board in Goat Tying with her first-go finish of 9.25. and second-go time of 8.88 seconds. She earned 31.5 points from state to her season total, ending with a total of 41.5 points.
The top 15 rodeo competitors in each event, by points, were able to compete in the short-go on Friday. Griffis was on the list for goat tying and ran her event in her best time of the weekend, 8.17 seconds, which was good for 7.5 points. Madison McIntosh made the top 15 list for barrel racing and polebending. She ran the clover pattern in 17.813 for nine points, and the poles in 43.51 seconds.
McIntosh was in 20th place in the average at state. In the first-go run of the barrels she clocked a time of 18.502 seconds, and in the second-go, she ran 18.272. In the poles, she averaged 27th with a 32.748 in the first-go and 32.970 in the second-go. She ends her season with 99 points in Barrels, with 15 points from state. She ended the season in polebending with 45 season points.
