Bingo, floats, and low-salt living

WHEATLAND – The senior center activities center was abuzz with activity as area residents celebrated Father’s Day with some bingo, pool, popcorn and Root Beer floats.
There were over 30 people at the event to celebrate fathers and grandfathers. Activities coordinator, Carrie Kafka baked chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies and served Root Beer floats for refreshments while guests played games. Game prizes ranged from a dozen eggs donated by Sharon Utter, a quarter, or a choice off the cart of goodies.
The activities center hosts Bingo games every Wednesday at 1:15 and pool games beginning at 1 p.m. at 809 16th Street in Wheatland.

“Once again, it’s the little things that mean the most – plus Root Beer floats to top the afternoon off!” Kafka said.
On June 20th, Debbie Collins with Banner Health shared ways to live deliciously with sodium or salt-controlled diets. She brought diced cucumbers and had guests try variations of nine different spices to see how they chalked up.
Collins shared how cooking with dried herbs and spice mixtures instead of using salt is a great way to reduce the amount of sodium in your diet.
Kafka said there were six seniors attending the morning wellness breakfast. There were sausage links, strawberries and muffins for a light breakfast. The center has a wellness breakfast every three months.
