Lady Lobos runners up in state softball

CASPER — Wheatland Lady Lobos attended the State Softball Tournament this past week in Casper with 12u, 10u and 8u teams. Pool play was Thursday and Friday with bracket play as double elimination Saturday and Sunday.
The 8U Lady Lobos, coached by Eric Bohlander, Kayla Bohlander and Erik Collar, are state runners up for 8U Machine Pitch. During bracket play Saturday, they won 10-5 against Lander Legends then took a loss to Laramie Girls Softball 8U 2-18, which dropped them to the losers bracket for Sunday. Sunday they defeated Lander again 8-5 placing them in the championship game against Laramie with 0-17 final score.
The 10U Lady Lobos, coached by Hayley Robertson, Courtney Sisson, Derrick Sisson and Jeff Struble, took third place. Coming out of pool play with 2-0 record they had a bye first round, following up with a win against Buffalo Girls Fastpitch 20-17. Taking 11-15 loss to Laramie All Stars dropped them to the losers bracket for Sunday where they battled hard against the Lander Legends, unable to get needed runs within the time limit, ending 11-20.
The 12u Lady Lobos, coached by Travis Lockman and Scott Aurich, are state runners up for the second year in a row. They began bracket play Saturday defeating Gillette All Stars 29-13 then took a 6-8 loss to the Douglas Diamonds in a double tie-breaker dropping to the losers bracket for Sunday.
Sunday they began their battle up to the championship game with an 18-3 win over the Casper Cobras, followed by a 13-6 win against World Wildfire, and 16-8 over Lander Legends. For the championship game they faced the Douglas Diamonds in another tight matchup just unable to get the last few runs recording 8-11 for final score.
