Roy Mathis passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024 at his home near Wheatland.
Roy was born on Friday, May 16, 1947 in Salina, Kansas the son of Otto Duis and Elna (Stene) Mathis.
The family moved to Littleton, Colorado where he started first grade at Bear Creek Elementary. After graduation from Bear Creek High School, he attended Colorado School of Mines earning a degree in Petroleum Engineering. Roy partnered with his brother-in-law, Mike Ludwig, in a few businesses, L & M Landscape and Patterned Concrete. He then went to work for Concrete Stabilization Technologies, eventually buying that company. During this time in Denver, Colorado he met the love of his life, Gloria Goodmay. They were married on September 29, 1973, in Sheridan. They moved to their Wyoming ranch in 1986 where they raised four children, while he divided his time between the ranch and his companies in Denver.
Roy and Gloria enjoyed traveling, putting many miles on their vehicles. After their children were grown, Gloria accompanied him to many business meetings and conferences. Rather than flying, they loved driving so they could explore the countryside. They traveled to many events to watch their children and grandchildren. These travels included watching wrestling, basketball, gymnastics, dance recitals, theater performances, county fair exhibits, and showings. Roy enjoyed genealogy and family history and liked to tell the rest of the family what he had learned. They both enjoyed dancing, especially to country western music. Roy was a very generous man, offering whatever help and support he could to others in need.
Roy is survived by his children, Chad (Estelle) Mathis of Castle Rock, Colorado, Clint (Christa) Mathis of Strasburg, Colorado, and Vicki (Mark) Keil of Redding, California; sisters, Bonnie Pascoe of Littleton, Colorado, Linda (Ronald) Berggren of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and Evonne Elstun of Belton, Texas; and nine grandchildren, Dalas, Destiny, Daniel, Mycah, Benjamin, Breanna, Gracelyn, Sarah, and Caleb.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Mathis on January 1, 2024 and son, Christopher Mathis on July 19, 2009.
Family and friends of Roy will miss his intelligence, stories, sense of humor, kindness, and love he shared with us.
