WHEATLAND — The Platte County Youth Baseball League hosted the Platte County Round Robin baseball tournament last weekend at the city baseball complex.
The age 10 and under (10u) team from Platte County went 0-2 against Torrington in a doubleheader June 30. After giving up 25 runs in the first game, the 10u team held a 9-6 lead into the fourth inning in game two. They fell 19-6 in the fifth inning.
The 12u side had eight teams, including teams from Casper, Torrington, Glenrock, Douglas (2), Wheatland (2) and Gering, Nebraska. Fans were treated to some outstanding games during the two-day event.
Platte County had two 12u teams that included players from Wheatland, Guernsey and Chugwater. Team No. 2 dropped game one 1-18 against the Torrington 12u team. In the evening game, they bounced back and defeated Glenrock 7-4 behind the arm of Lane N. They beat Douglas No. 2 12-2 on July 1 to finish the weekend 2-1.

Platte County No. 1 split games, going 2-2 on the weekend. They did a “10-run rule” (game called after four innings when a team ahead by 10 runs) with Douglas No. 1 13-3 behind great pitching by Mike H., of Wheatland.
In the second game June 30, Lee R. pitched two shutout innings as Wheatland took a 7-5 lead into the fifth inning against Torrington. Torrington put up six runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull away and blank Wheatland in a cold rain in the sixth inning to finish with an 11-7 victory.
On July 1, Grant G. and Dawson B. combined to shut down Glenrock in another 10-run game, 18-7.
In the final game of the weekend, Wheatland No. 1 took 3-1 over the Gering all-stars into the fourth behind four innings of no hit ball from Brock P. Gering put up four runs in the fifth inning off relief pitching to finish with the win 5-3. Braden N. threw three straight strikeouts in the final inning, but Wheatland could not put up any runs in the sixth to take the loss.  Wheatland No. 2 will finish their season at the Casper Driller Classic Tournament July 15-16.   Wheatland No. 1 will head to Gillette for the Little League District tournament where they face Newcastle on Monday July 16th.
