Reader endorses prayer

Dear Judy,
A Christian friend called me last night to see how I was doing. I told her I’d been to the Emergency Room and I was quite sick. She asked if there was anything she could do for me. I really didn’t need anything so I said, “Yes, please pray for me. That would be the best thing you could do for me.” Before we had finished talking, she said at least twice more how she sure wishes she could do something to help me. I said, “You are if you’ll pray for me.” My question to you is, Don’t people believe in prayer anymore? That is the most powerful thing a friend can do for another friend, to pray for them. But I felt she wasn’t even hearing me.

Dear Believer,
I do understand what you are saying. So many people are living in the realm of reason and not in the realm of faith. Prayer is the most powerful thing we Christians can do for others, no matter what their need. It does not matter what issue we are facing, the power of prayer is amazing. Doctors are wonderful and we are blessed to have them, but they do not know everything. Remember, they are practicing physicians. Only Dr. Jesus has ALL the answers for all issues of life.
It is sad when someone who says I am a Christian does not know prayer should always be first. Yes, we need to help people in need with physical help also. We need to do both! Matthew 21:22 says, And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive. Notice the words believe and receive. Another great scripture is James 5:15: And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. With faith-prayers the Lord saves and raises! The prayers come first before the answer!
In this great country, we can pray anywhere and anytime. That should cause the child of God to use the most powerful tool they have to change the course of things. If we really believe it is God’s will to heal and deliver, then we need to trust and believe and start praying. One prayer all of us should pray is for every Christian to boldly lay hands on the sick and watch them recover!
