WHEATLAND –  Last Friday night’s game against the Pinedale Wranglers was a great night all around for the Wheatland Bulldogs. All three phases of the game were well represented as the Bulldogs completed their regular season in phenomenal fashion.
Pinedale scored the first points of the night with a 65 yard touchdown run with 10:31 left in the first quarter. Just two minutes of game time later the Bulldogs got on the board with a Wyatt Crane 11 yard touchdown run, tying the game at 6. The Bulldogs kicked the extra point giving them the 7-6 lead in the first quarter. The Bulldogs defense held strong throughout the first quarter and gave the Pinedale offense very little to work with, as they would be shut out the rest of the quarter. Wheatland’s Colton Caves scored on a 7 yard run at the end of the first quarter giving Wheatland a bigger lead to start the second quarter.
At the beginning of the second quarter, the Wranglers offense would go three and out and were forced to punt it away. A Kelby Hays pass to Crane went for 83 yards getting the Bulldogs into scoring position. After a Wrangler, time-out the Bulldog’s Colton Caves ran for another touchdown, extending the Bulldog’s lead.

The Bulldogs defense would once again step up causing the Wranglers to punt to Kobey Preuit who took the return 30 yards into Bulldog territory. The Bulldogs would take advantage of the excellent field position with Caves catching a 1 yard pass for a Wheatland touchdown. Payton Hanni kicked the extra point giving the Bulldogs the 28 to 6 lead with just 3:25 left until halftime. The impressive offensive and defensive performances continued for the Bulldogs as they would score again before the half off of a Kye Hicks touchdown.
The long bus ride for the Wranglers would get even longer with the Wheatland defense wreaking havoc on the Pinedale offense. A third quarter fumble by Pinedale recovered by the Bulldogs gave Wheatland excellent field position again and would later result in touchdown pass to a wide-open Preuit giving Wheatland the 42-6 lead. Wheatland would take the 42-6 lead to the end of the third quarter and not look back the rest of the night.
The Wheatland special teams felt the need to jump into the action as a Wrangler’s punt would go to Preuit, and Preuit would take it to the end zone giving the Bulldogs a 48-6 lead in the fourth quarter. Not to be outdone the Bulldogs defense felt the need to assist with the Wranglers offensive woes by recovering yet another turnover off of a fumbled snap. A few plays later Hutchins scored another touchdown for the Bulldogs giving Wheatland the 55-6 lead as the clock wound down making this the final score.
The Anderson Dental Good Sportsmanship Award was given to Clayton Iacovetto.  It was also Senior Night for the Bulldog Boys, recognizing our graduating players. On Friday, October 26th our Bulldogs will start the playoffs as they travel to Greybull for a first round match-up starting at 6 p.m.
