WHEATLAND – The Wheatland Bulldogs boys and girls track team makes the short trip to Douglas this weekend to compete in the 3A East Regional Invitational in Douglas.
Wheatland is coming off of action in Torrington for the Wiseman Invite. Last Friday in Torrington, the Bulldogs finished sixth with 42 points, while the girls took seventh with 18.5 points. Wheatland was one of only two 3A schools competing last week in Torrington, so the teams will see different competition this weekend.
Wheatland is joined by the seven other teams in the 3A East is Douglas, Newcastle, Torrington, Buffalo, Worland, Thermopolis and Rawlins. Torrington was the other 3A school at the Wiseman Invite last week, edging the Bulldogs in both the boys team race (fourth) and the girls team race (fifth).
A year ago, all eight teams from the 3A East joined up for the regional invite in Thermopolis. In last year’s regional meet, the Lady Bulldogs took fifth in the team standings with 58 points, between Torrington (98) and Worland (47.5). The Wheatland boys finished eighth in the standings with 31 points behind Rawlins’ 46 points.
Bids to the state meet will be on the line this weekend in Douglas. The Bulldogs will need to hit their peak in Douglas in order to qualify for a spot at the 3A State Invitational next weekend in Casper.
