Bulldogs fall to Herders in dual

WHEATLAND – The Wheatland Bulldogs wrestling team picked up five wins in a dual against Glenrock on Jan. 30, but it was not enough as the Herders recorded the 48-30 win over the Bulldogs.

Starting at 220 pounds, Wyatt Crane went the distance against Jadon Williams, but lost in a 6-4 decision. Elias Orozco kept the winning going for Glenrock with a pin over Keedan Boling in the first period of the heavyweight match.

Colter Guty (106) put the Bulldogs on the board with a forfeit win, followed by a pin by Keegan Meyer over Josie Bruno at 34 seconds at 113 pounds. Wheatland’s 126-pounder, Noah Whitfield, lasted for more than five minutes against Dustin Simmons, but was pinned late in the third period.

Ethan Read (132) picked up a win by pin in the first period against Adrian Mass. The win by Read put Wheatland up 18-15. Glenrock’s Brysen Collier took tied the dual up at 18 points apiece with a 5-2 decision win over Drake Amundson.

The Bulldogs took a 12-point lead after back-to-back wins. At 145 pounds, Seth DeWitt pinned Syler Fleck in 22 seconds, before Cross Hernandez (152) pinned Jonah Young in the second period. At 160 pounds, Simone Mainetti was pinned in the second by Isak Elisson.

Glenrock closed out the dual with 24-straight points, all by forfeit wins. Corden Phillips, Ian Arnold, Josh Burrus and Andrick Moreno all won by forfeit, giving the Herders the 48-30 win.

Wheatland had a dual on the road Tuesday against Rawlins after press time. The Bulldogs return to their home mats Thursday when they host Newcastle for a dual. Thursday’s action is the final event of the regular season for Wheatland, with the regional tournament slated for Feb. 16-17 in Worland.
