CHEYENNE – The Wheatland FFA had another successful year at the Wyoming FFA State Convention, April 10 through 13.

The chapter was a gold emblem chapter based on its Program of Activities and had nine state degree recipients. Finally, they successfully defended the CDE Sweepstakes title by claiming the award for the second year in a row. This award takes in the five best-finishing teams for a chapter, and whoever had the best finishes claims the prize.

The first team to walk across stage was the Vet Science kids composed of Megan Sagner, Lily Nichols, Kaylee Rasnake, and Sabella Douglas. The Vet Science teams were crowned Champions and Sagner was the high individual in the contest and third-high individual overall.

The agronomy team, composed of Landon Thomas, Jazlynne Gonzalez, Nolan Allen, and Corinne Gaby, were the second team to be crowned champions with Corinne being first overall, Allen - second, Thomas - third, and Gonzalez - fourth.

Following were the Meat Judging individuals, this team included Sagner, Dyllan Pedersen, Riley Appleton, and Austin Brennan. Sagner had a tremendous day and was the high individual in the contest overall, with the team placing seventh overall.

The Environmental and Natural resources students had four new members including Matthew Wakkuri, Thomas, Cooper Meyer, and Ace Keil. They brought home another win with Wakkuri being the high individual and Keil being second overall.

The FFA creed started back in March, but Carly Robertson had to make it through districts and regional competitions to make it to state. This was Robertson’s second year competing at State, and she served her chapter well, earning Reserve Champion in the FFA Creed speaking competition.

The livestock judging team included members Halle Huston, Kaidyn Kasun, Madison McIntosh, and Robertson. In a very tough contest, the girls ended up tenth, but they know what they can improve on and aim to walk the stage next year.

The agriculture mechanics crew was configured of Courtney Dumont, Braiden Durland, Mikayla Durland, and Carter Herb. They competed very well and brought back valuable information to ensure more success next year. The Horse team included Caleb Hyche, Katie Miller, McIntosh, and Tayen Wakkuri, coached by Kaylee Rasnake. They had a good day finishing 12th overall as a team.

The Farm Business Management crew brought home the fourth win at state convention. Sagner coached the crew with team members including Jessie Graves, Rylie Davis-Lind, Hunter Furl, and Karly Jones. The team had a great day on the test with Furl being the second-high individual overall and the group won the team activity.

Next up was the Poultry team with Shayden Davis, Maggie Hicks, Hallie Mickelsen and Haiden Sisson. The team ended up fifth overall. The Greenhand Quizbowl crew was made up of all freshmen including Rileigh Allen, Ayden Coates, Kaycee Metz, Hallie Mickelsen, and Jacob Miller. The greenhand crew came out fourth overall.

The next team is the Marketing plan squad, and this is the first year Wheatland FFA Advisor Bill Dalles coached that team, which he said “did very well,” with their seventh-overall finish. Team members included Davis-Lind, Jones, and Eleni Mckee.

The Ag Sales team was the final squad composed of Traylea Foland, Kasun, Ella Keil and Camryn Mickelsen. The team ended up 13th but this was the first year for all in this contest and they are eager for next year, Dalles said.
