Snow flurries couldn’t dampen spooky spirits at Glendo’s Fall Fun and Craft Fair

GLENDO — In spite of a low, gray sky, and icy bits of snow swirling through the air, the Glendo Fall Fun event boasted a great turnout for the Smoked Meat Cookoff, Farmer’s Market, Craft Fair, and Trunk or Treat with outdoor games for kids hosted at the Glendo School.

The Trunk or Treat and games were set up in the grassy and still green football field adjacent to the school where ghouls and superheroes made off with treats, brought hand-carved Jack-O-Lanterns for display and a contest, and played lawn-style games. The chilly air was no deterrent to a couple of Jedis wielding light sabers against their natural foe, Boba Fett.  Vehicles providing treats flanked the field with wide-open trunks and hatch-backs decorated with lights, spider webs, and witches where kids could grab a treat.

In the Glendo School gymnasium, a variety of crafters, vendors, and food items were available for purchase; from leather jewelry, to home-baked goods, candles, and home-crafted holiday décor.

The atmosphere in the gym was delicious with the aromas of smoked meat as contestants served up their best recipes to those attending the fair. Smoked meat chefs paid a fee to enter the contest, and those attending the fair were able to partake of the succulent offerings for a small ticket price. Baked beans and chips were donated as sides to go along with the smoked meat. Prizes were awarded based on judges’ and people’s choices.

The Fall Fun event also asked those attending to bring a non-perishable food item to help keep the Glendo Food Bank well-stocked.

The whole place was buzzing with fun activity, camaraderie, and a cheerful holiday vibe in spite of the sub-freezing temperatures.
