WHEATLAND — On Sunday, July 14, the following statement was issued by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office on their facebook page:
On July 12th around 1142 hours the Platte County Sheriff’s Office received report of a male that had jumped off a boat and never resurfaced. Search efforts have been in place since. Through cooperation with Basin Electric, we have been able to shut the dam and pumps off for periods of time to allow for safer search conditions. Members from our agency along with: Platte County Search and Resuce, Torrington Volunteer Fire Department, Scott’s Bluff County Dive Team, Albany County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, Guersney Fire, Guersney Rural Fire, Wheatland Fire, Platte County Emergency Management, Capital City K9 and Wyoming Game and Fish have assisted. There has also been the assistance of several local residence providing boats and sonar and live scan. We appreciate their support and assistance.
Due to the area the male went under it is hard to see due to the large rocks and caverns underneath. It is possible with the location the male may have slipped under a cavern or into an underwater cave and may be unable to be located. Divers have dived in several locations in which sonar picked up obscure objects. Along with the above a thermal drone and cadaver K9’s have assisted in the search.
As of today, July 14th, Tip Top Search and Rescue is arriving to drop a more sophisticated sonar into the lake bottom. During this time we will be restricting boating access at the East end of Grayrocks Lake.
The name of the deceased will not be released in respect of the family. We appreciate everyone’s assistance and cooperation in this incident.
