WHEATLAND– A full schedule of events, prizes and fun is planned for 1 p.m. this Saturday, July 20 at the Weiser Barn off Highway 34 outside Wheatland. The “Run for your life!” Broken Wings Barrel Race is a new way for Project SAFE, Inc. to raise funds to support the non-profit victim advocacy group that provides emergency assistance and support for victims of crime. In past years Project SAFE has held a 5K race, but wanted to try something new this year, not only to raise funds essential to the operation of the program, but to bring awareness there is help available for victims of violence.
“The phrase “Run for your life!” is a phrase that can turn into reality when we least expect it. Where do you run for help? If you become a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, or dating violence, run to Project SAFE in Wheatland,” stated a press release about the barrel racing event, to explain the theme for the fundraiser. Serving Wheatland and surrounding areas, the staff at Project SAFE has resources to help anyone who feels threatened or in danger from someone close to them.
All proceeds – from concessions, entries, and donations, will go to Project SAFE, Inc.

There have been a multitude of sponsors who have contributed top-notch prize money and many prize and awards during the barrel racing competition planned to have a few fun twists, according to organizers. The modest $10 entry fee will get you in the running, and there are events for all ages and skill-level of competitors. Don’t have a horse? You can help by donating money, volunteering your time, or just coming out to cheer everyone on and catch up with friends and neighbors.
“Let’s make this barrel race a success and turn it into the first of an ongoing annual event,” Jan Weiser said.
Pre-entries are available and encouraged at J-C LLC, though you can enter at the time of the event. Look for more information on Facebook, J-C, Wiser Bar Barn, or contact Carla at 307-331-2453.
The Weiser Barn is located at 4925 State Highway 34, just three miles West of I-25 and 10 miles from Wheatland. Look for the metal sign on the north side of the road and the arena barn that is tan with a green roof.
Future planning: don’t forget to mark your calendars for the fundraising golf tournament planned for August 24.

Project SAFE, Inc. is an equal opportunity, non-profit organization located at 1207 9th Street in Wheatland. They can be contacted by phone at 307-322-4794 or email ps@projectsafe-wyo.org.
