Platte ParaTransit Receives Donation from Laramie River Station/Basin Electric

For Wyoming Newspapers

Platte ParaTransit, wishes to thank Laramie River Station/Basin Electric for the generous donation to help us get off the ground.  Platte ParaTransit is the newly formed non-profit organization that is continuing the “Give a Lift” services begun and managed by Marge Scholten, for the past 15 years.

After Marge’s retirement, the Thrift Store on Gilchrist which had supported the program went under new management and the proceeds no longer support the medical van service in our community.

The purpose of Platte ParaTransit is to provide transportation to people who must travel for medical purposes.  Volunteer drivers take folks from Platte County to and from Cheyenne, Douglas, Casper, Laramie, Ft.Collins, and Scottsbluff for dialysis, chemo and radiation therapy, physical therapy, routine appointments, and various other medical purposes.  Most of the riders are required to go several times a week and are physically unable to drive themselves.  During the month of June, 58 trips were made with a total of 98 clients.

Without the support of the Thrift Shop, Platte ParaTransit must rely on donations from the community and individuals.  The cost of continuing this important service includes gasoline, insurance, maintenance, and repairs and eventual replacement for the vehicles.  The volunteer drivers are also paid a small per diem for each trip.

The organization is presently reaching out to churches, businesses, civic organizations, and individuals for donations to keep the vans up and running.  If you would like to donate you may send a check to Platte ParaTransit, 1863 South Street, Wheatland, WY.

A fundraising “Summer Square Dance in the Park” will be held on Sunday, August 20th in the afternoon.  Please mark your calendars.  More details coming soon.

In the meantime, the donation from Laramie River Station/Basin Electric will help keep the vans on the road for a few more months, for which the new organization is exceedingly grateful.
