Notice: Water tower rebuild to be funded

CHEYENNE – At their meeting last week, the State Land and Investment Board approved a Mineral Resources grant application for the Town of Wheatland to fund construction of a rebuild for the Wheatland Water Tower, which has a chronic leak that has compromised its safety. Members of the board, (the governor, secretary of state, superintendent of public instruction, state auditor, and state treasurer) see the situation as one of several projects across the state with top priority for use of the state’s MRG funds.
In January the SLIB board approved an emergency application by the town to fund demolition of the water tower, with the plan to give the town more time to find other grants or for the legislature to approve further funding and possibly utilize federal funds from the American Recovery Act. At the January meeting the board had planned to look at potential funding of further portions of the cost to rebuild the tower, beyond any funds that were able to be obtained in the interim.
