WHS boys fall to No. 2 Rawlins

The Wheatland boys basketball team finished up the regular season Friday at No. 2-ranked Rawlins. Fresh off facing the No. 1-ranked Buffalo Bison last week, the Bulldogs met the only team with a conference win against Buffalo.

WHS boys fall to No. 2 Rawlins

RAWLINS – The Wheatland boys basketball team finished up the regular season Friday at No. 2-ranked Rawlins. Fresh off facing the No. 1-ranked Buffalo Bison last week, the Bulldogs met the only team with a conference win against Buffalo. 

Rawlins’ size presented a challenge for the Bulldogs with a front line that went 6-foot, 8-inches, 6-foot, 6-inches and 6-foot, 5-inches. The Bulldogs fell behind by six at the end of the first and 11 by halftime, losing 59-33.

Rawlins leads the state in rebounding and had too many second chance points on the offensive end. Zack Gunter led the Bulldogs with 10 points. The Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 7-14 record. 

Individually for the season, the Bulldogs had several conference leaders in statistics. 

Trigg Peasley was top 10 in scoring (11 points/game), 3-point shooting (36%) and rebounding (6.2/game).  Gunter finished top 10 in steals (3.2/game) and Clayton Iacovetto was a leader in field goal percentage (62%). The Bulldogs are No. 5 in the state for overall defense.

Wheatland will again face No. 1 Buffalo Thursday in Douglas for the first game of the regional 3A East Regional Tournament.
