WHEATLAND — Arts & Crafts classes at Services for Seniors are providing a cheerful, creative outlet for seniors in Wheatland thanks to the efforts of the activities coordinator, Carrie Kafka. The October calendar featured a Pretty Pumpkin Project with supplies, decor, and other materials provided by the activities center.

“We do take donations for supplies,” said Kafka. Donations can be made in the form of money or through arts and crafts supplies or other decor. “We can always use more supplies, whether it is paint brushes, ribbons, fabric, or any item we can repurpose into a fun project,” Kafka added.

The pumpkin project was only the second crafting class that has been on the calendar so far, and it’s gaining traction. “We had expected an average of 6-8 participants per class,” Kafka said. “Today we have nine ladies and it is so great! We only look forward to growing.”

Among laughter, jokes, and bursts of individual creativity, these ladies enjoyed a fun project that they could take home or give as a gift.

The happy interaction with others, working with your hands, and sharing ideas is such a valuable part of life, and programs like this are beyond price.

“Any senior in the community can attend this class or any other programs we have on the calendar,” Kafka explained. “There are some age requirements, and we also have participants fill out an AGNES (Aging Needs Evaluation Summary) form before attending.”

Other programs regularly offered include line dancing, cardio workouts, bible studies, and a strong bones class.
