Lady 'Dawgs track team makes strong showing

DOUGLAS—The Lady Bulldog track team racked up 136.5 points to claim second place in the Douglas Invitational on April 22. Competing with teams from Newcastle, Sundance, Rock River and the host Douglas, Wheatland took the top honors in the 800 Meter Run (Lily Nichols, 2:25.10), 4x100 Meter Relay (names not listed), High Jump (Desirae Iacovetto, 5-03) and Pole Vault (Kacey Otero, 8-06). 

In the 100 Meter Dash, Emma Kaushagen finished seventh with a time of 13.99 and Abby Lee clocked 15.56. Adalyn Olson of Newcastle won in 12.91.  

Laynie Goertz took second in the 200 Meter Dash, running a 27.22 and Kaushagen placed fourth (28.66). Jaden Meyer of Douglas placed first with a time of 26.04. 

Hannah Lee finished sixth the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 1:12.87. Riley Cook of Douglas took first with a time of 1:03.8.  

Kaelyn Wessel picked up third place in the 3200 Meter Run, clocking 16:10.03.  Aspen Bloom from Newcastle took first in 13:05.78.

Wheatland picked up fifth (Maggie Hicks, (19.16) and seventh (Lee, 21,37) in the 100 Meter Hurdles. Meyer of Newcastle placed first in 15.53.  

In addition to Iacovetto’s first place, Otero finished fourth in the High Jump, clearing 4-07.  

In the Long Jump, Iacovetto took second (16-03.5), Chelsea Hedstrom finished sixth (14-00), Ashlyn Streets placed eighth (12-09.5) and Lee marked 10-08.75. Meyer of Douglas cleared 17-04.25 to claim first.

Wheatland took the fifth (Lee, 28.07.5), sixth (Hicks, 27-09) and seventh (Hedstrom, 27-07.5) in the Triple Jump. Julianna Swanson of Douglas won the event with a mark of 32-04.

The Dawgs swept the top three spots and claimed four places overall in the Pole Vault. In addition to Otero’s winning mark, Hicks placed second at 8-06, followed by Paige Fredericks in third at 8-00 and Streets tied for fourth at 7-00.

In the Discus, Karly Jones finished eighth with a mark of 79-08.  Also competing were Bianca Dawson (62-05), Keyless Knew (29-08.5) and Karly Jones (25-03.5). First went to Riley Banker of Sundance with a mark of 112-00.

Douglas had the highest team score with a total of 240 points, followed by Wheatland (136.5), Sundance (96), Newcastle (79) and Rock River (20).

The team will compete next in Torrington on Friday, May 3. Events begin at 10 a.m.
