Wyoming senate district 6 candidate condemns Gov’s delay tactics, applauds full funding of Wheatland water tower

WHEATLAND – Darin Smith, candidate for Wyoming Senate District 6, has vehemently condemned Governor Gordon for his obstructionist tactics and delays in funding the Wheatland water tower replacement project, while applauding Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray for his effective advocacy.
The project, initially supported by Representative Jeremy Haroldson, aimed to address the critical disrepair of Wheatland’s water tower. During this year’s legislative session, Representative Haroldson successfully advocated for an amendment to include funding for the water tower in the state budget. However, Governor Gordon unexpectedly vetoed the funding, citing political reasons related to Haroldson’s principled stance on the budget vote.
Governor Gordon’s initial veto of legislative funding earmarked for the critical water tower replacement in Wheatland was a reckless decision that endangered the safety and well-being of Wyoming residents. Smith criticized Gordon for prioritizing political gamesmanship over essential infrastructure needs.

“Governor Gordon’s actions in obstructing the funding for the Wheatland water tower were a blatant disregard for the safety of our communities,” Smith stated. “His delay tactics unnecessarily prolonged the vulnerability of our water infrastructure, putting residents at risk.”
Smith commended Secretary Chuck Gray for tirelessly advocating on behalf of Wheatland residents:
“Secretary Gray’s leadership in securing funding for the Wheatland water tower demonstrates what effective representation looks like,” Smith emphasized. “He understood the urgency of the situation and fought tirelessly to protect the interests of Wyomingites. Gray’s commitment to transparent and accountable governance stands in stark contrast to Governor Gordon’s political maneuvering.”
With the water tower now funded, Smith emphasized the importance of holding elected officials accountable for their actions and decisions that impact community safety and infrastructure.
“Wheatland deserved better than Governor Gordon’s delays and political games,” Smith asserted. “As a candidate for Senate District 6, I will continue to stand up against such irresponsible leadership and fight for transparent and timely funding processes that prioritize the safety and well-being of our residents.”
