Wheatland track teams compete at Basin Nation

GILLETTE—The Wheatland Bulldog track teams attended one of the biggest meets of their season in Gillette as they competed with teams from Sheridan, Kelly Walsh, Campbell County and host Thunder Basin on April 23rd.

The girls’ team scored 63 points, finishing in fourth place overall. Sheridan took the team honors with 184 points, followed by Kelly Walsh (166), Thunder Basin (162), and Campbell County (50).

Lily Nichols picked up first place finishes in the 400 Meter Dash and the Long Jump.   

In the 100 Meter Dash, Laynie Goertz finished sixth with a time of 13.19. Also competing were Emma Kaushagen (13.97), Chelsea Hedstrom (15.38) and Abby Lee (15.88). Addie Pendergast of Sheridan took first with a time of 12.33.

Desirae Iacovetto finished second in the 200 Meter Dash, clocking a 26.5. She was edged out at the tape by Pendergast of Sheridan who ran a 25.26.  

Lily Nichols bested the field in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 59.26. Also competing was Hannah Lee with a time of 1:12.85.

Kaelyn Wessel ran the 1600 Meter Run in a time of 7:06.27. First place went to Lexi Longhurst of Kelly Walsh who ran a 5:37.11.

In the 100 Meter Hurdles, Kacey Otero finished fifth in 17.74. Also competing were Maggie Hicks (18.39) and Lee (20.86). Jordan Kroeger of Kelly Walsh took first, running 15.75.

Wheatland’s 4x100 Meter Relay team (names not listed) turned in a time of 51.04 to win the event over teams from Thunder Basin, Campbell County and Sheridan.

Otero cleared 4-05 in the High Jump. Ashley Rogge of Thunder Basin finished first with a mark of 5-03.  

Nichols topped the competition in the Long Jump with a mark of 17-09.5. Also competing for Dawgs were Hedstrom (13-04.75), A. Lee (12-01) and Ashlyn Streets (11-10).

Competing in the Triple Jump were Hicks (29-07.25), Hannah Lee (29-02), Hedstrom (28-08.75), A. Lee (25-03.25). First went to Mesa Haft of Sheridan who cleared 35-02.

Otero and Hicks placed fourth and fifth in the Pole Vault as both cleared 9-00. (Placings are based on number of attempts when the height is identical.) Paige Fredericks cleared 7-06. First went to Lilly Charest of Sheridan who cleared 11-0.

Competing in the Discus were Karly Jones (70-01) and Bianca Dawson (66-06).  Emma Schubach of Thunder Basin won the event with a mark of 117-0.  

Kaylese Knew marked 30-05 in the Shot Put. Jones threw 27-0 and Dawson marked 25-07.25. First went to Teagan Becker of Kelly Walsh with a distance of 43-06.75.

In the boys’ competition, Sheridan claimed the team title with 219 points, followed by Thunder Basin (156), Kelly Walsh (151), Campbell County (66.5) and Wheatland (43.5).  

In the 100 Meter Dash, Tyler Bohnen placed fourth with a time of 11.4. Also competing were Simon May (11.9), Trevor Bashor (12.61) and Brayden Durland (12.62). Chance Morris of Sheridan had the winning time of 10.98.  

In the 200 Meter Dash, Bohnen tied for seventh place with a time of 23.26.  Also competing were Ethan Jackson (25.85), Durland (26.67), Bashor (28.18) and Asibek Gofurjonov (29.54).  Bridger Norton of Thunder Basin won with a time of 22.28.  

Gavin May (56.08) and Tagg Mickelsen (56.37) competed in the 400 Meter Dash. Garrett Otto of Sheridan was first in 51.38.

Tyler Murray ran a 5:38.45 in the 1600 Meter Run. Luke Pearson of Kelly Walsh took first with a time of 4:40.21.

Cole Goertz ran 43.74 in the 110 Meter Hurdles. Sheridan’s Aiden O’Leary placed first with a time of 14.9.

Wheatland’s 4x100 Meter Relay team (names not listed) placed third with a time of 44.68.  Sheridan took first in 43.42.

Bryce Stenson marked 19-06 to take third in the Long Jump.  Bohnen finished fourth with a mark of 19-04.25. Also competing were May (18-01.5), Mikelsen (17-00.75), and Wyatt Weber (15-08). Matt Brown of Sheridan won the event with a mark of 19-09.5.

Stenson won third in the Triple Jump, clearing 40-02. Nolan Hotel of Thunder Basin won with a mark of 41-00.25.  

Jackson finished third in the Pole Vault, clearing the bar at 13-0. Clayton Dahlstedt also competed and cleared 11-0.  Finn McCoul of Kelly Walsh won the event by clearing 13-06.  

In the Discus, Bode Stone marked 109-09, Gabriel Haroldson marked 87-07 and Bryson Cook threw 81-02. Jace Lijewski of Kelly Walsh took first with a mark of 124-03.

Stone picked up third place in the Shot Put with a mark of 47-08.25. Also competing was Haroldson (37-01.5) and Bryson Cook (28-11). Raynor Ranum of Campbell County marked 54-10.25 to take first.

Wheatland will head to Torrington Friday, May 3 to compete in the Torrington Invitational. Events begin at 10 a.m.
