Viking junior high track teams compete at Burns

BURNS—With limited numbers, Guernsey’s junior high track teams won’t be bringing home any team titles but track is really all about improving your personal bests in the events in which you choose to compete. And especially in the junior high grades, it’s even more about trying and learning.

In the boys’ competition, the Vikes had five competitors in the 100 Meter Dash. Peyton West had their best time in the event, placing sixth by clocking a time of 14.4. Also competing were Henry Zapf (15.31), Logan Lewis (16.62), Titus Cooper (18,.64) and Danny Barstow (20.20). Lincoln Speckner of Lingle-Fort Laramie won the event with a time of 13.16.

Logan Lewis clocked a 3:06.23 and Allen Valtierra-Gray posted a 3:14.14 in the 800 Meter Run. Lincoln Behind of Kimball finished first with a time of 2:40.82.

West finished fourth in the 100 Meter Hurdles with a time of 19.95 and Valtierra-Gray clocked 27.74. Robert Trefren of Kimball took first in 18.27.

Zapf finished third in the Shot Put with a mark of 35-02.5. Matt Swingholm threw a 27-10. Lingle-Fort Laramie’s Deangelo Gann placed first, marking 37-08.5.

Swingholm threw 74-11 in the Discus. First went to Hunter Miller of Burns with a mark of 111-04.5.

The Vikes entered six contestants in the Long Jump. Zapf marked 13-02, followed by West (13-01), Lewis (12-00.5), Valtierra-Gray (11-01), Cooper (9-06,) and Barstow (8-08.5). First place went to Ethan Teeters of Lingle-Fort Laramie with a distance of 16-06.75.  

Burns had the top team score with 132 points, followed by Kimball (123), Lingle-Fort Laramie (98), Bridgeport (82.75), Pine Bluffs (67.25), Southeast (44.5), Pawnee (21), Guernsey-Sunrise (15) and Briggsdale (14.5).  

In the girls’ events, the Vikes entered four in the 100 Meter Dash. Delaynie Hort clocked a 16.0, followed by Ally Ann Dimas (16.36), Taylor Nyquist (16.77) and Lacie Nyquist (18.97). MiaBlanco of Bridgeport finished first in a time of 14.34.

Hort claimed eighth place in the 100 Meter Hurdles with a time of 21.71. Also competing were T. Nyquist (22.87) Dimas (22.93) and Ari Thompson (23.30). Lilli Krei of Pine Bluffs won first with a time of 19.48.

Kamlee Collar took fourth in the Shot Put with a distance of 25-07.5. Dimas marked a 21-02. JaLeigh Bohac of Kimball claimed first with a mark of 29-03.

Collar placed fifth in the Discus with a mark of 63-06. Bohac of Kimball took first in that event as well, marking 101-02.

Hort placed fifth in Pole Vault clearing 5-00. Rylan Carney cleared 4-06. Bracken Kiefer of Kimball finished first, clearing 6-06.

Carney jumped 9-03.75 in the Long Jump. L. Nyquist marked 8-11 and Thompson jumped 7-07.5. Kimball’s Emmaline Tabor placed first with a mark of 14-06.75.

Burns won the girls’ team title with 123.5 points, followed by Lingle-Fort Laramie (119), Kimball (116), Bridgeport (74), Southeast (72.5), Pine Bluffs (64), Briggsdale (32) and Guernsey-Sunrise (13).
