Brooklyn’s Tavern to serve up NY-style pizza

WHEATLAND – After three months of construction and a successful “soft opening” for the downtown Wheatland car show in July, Brooklyn’s Tavern will be opening its doors at noon on Friday, Aug. 23. Opening day will include a few giveaways.
With the flair, flavor, and a touch of class, Brooklyn’s Tavern will bring authentic New York-style pizza to the area, from a former New Yorker who’s spent quite a bit of time hand-tossing dough at pizzerias in the Big Apple. With roots in Wheatland for the past five years – and a love for the small-town community, Brian Colaprete had the vision of bringing the feel of an eastern tavern to the corner of 9th and Gilchrist in downtown Wheatland. The unpretentious atmosphere and affordable menu will include pizza, subs, New York cheesecake and cannoli; and a bar serving a few specialty drinks with meals, including the tavern’s house beer which is brewed in New York.

So, what sets New York Pizza apart from other pizzas? Beside the fact, New York pizza is consistently at the very top of the list for “best pizza” in the nation – and even the world: true New York-style pizza is foldable with a thin crust that’s crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside, and uses fresh, quality ingredients – balanced just right with specially-seasoned sauce and high-quality cheese.
The pizzas served by Colaprete has had many compliments from his customers. He said he wants people to be able to come in to eat delicious fresh food, have a drink, and hang out with their family if they want.
Colaprete has installed a digital juke box and pool table for patrons to use and hopes to have specials or menu additions as the restaurant settles into a rhythm within the community. He also plans to have occasional events broadcasting Buffalo Bills games, or a movie marathon with something like the Sopranos film series.
Brooklyn’s Tavern will be open from noon to midnight Monday through Saturday. Stop by and say “hi,” you’ll be treated like family.
