Hello, Spring

Posted

WHEATLAND – It is more than Arts & Crafts on Thursdays at the Services for Seniors Activity Center. It is friendship. It is conversation and encouragement. It is freshly popped popcorn and coffee. It is a chance to stretch the creative wings and see what’s percolating in the ol’ brain (one might also do some chair-aerobics while another is gluing feathers to a popsicle stick!).

An impromptu craft day presented itself to Activities Coordinator Carrie Kafka, and like all true creative people, she goes with the flow.

As the main holiday of spring quickly approaches, Kafka provided a variety of options for local seniors to explore. Painting, coloring, gluing, and arranging were all components of the adorable Easter decorative projects Kafka made available to the crafting faithful.

“These little moments mean the most,” Kafka said. “An ear to listen, or to just give a little encouragement goes a long way!” And this is truly her mission and evident accomplishment this past year. Attendance to not only craft day, but other activities and seminars has increased. Bible studies, aerobics, games, meals, and special trips are just a few of the offerings for area seniors.

Social interaction, laughter, and shared ideas are part of what gives life value. Consider attending one of the many activities or meals offered every single day. If you have questions about the calendar of events, or times and days when meals are served, call (307) 322-3424.

Art and craft supplies are always in demand and donations are cheerfully accepted at the Services for Seniors Activities Center on the corner of Walnut and 16th Streets in Wheatland.
