Experience Wyatt Earp’s wagon train through Wyoming at county library

PLATTE COUNTY — The Platte County Historical Society will host a special program on Tuesday, August 13th at the Platte County Library. Award winning author and historian, Janelle Molony will present “The Earp’s Wagon Train Experience Through Wyoming.” Janelle is a verified wagon train family descendant and author/editor of the award-winning tales that take young Wyatt Earp to his legendary future out west. Janelle is a descendant of Sarah Jane Rousseau, a diarist in the Pella Company. Sarah’s 1864 diary has won numerous awards and accolades since publication. 

Janelle will share how Nicholas Earp got into a pickle with the soldiers at Fort Laramie; see the connection between the Pella Company and the family of pre-Civil War abolitionist John Brown and hear how they fought off robbers near Orin and in Douglas.

Chapter president Rick Robbins said “This is a rare opportunity to hear from a direct descendant of early pioneers. Janelle is a member of the Wyoming Historical Society and project director of its oral history project “Women of Wyoming: Then and Now.”  The free program will begin at 7 p.m., Tuesday, August 13th at the Platte County Library.

The Platte County Historical Society is a chapter of the Wyoming Historical Society. Membership includes receiving Annals of Wyoming three times a year, Wyoming History News, notices of special events such as treks to historic sites, award opportunities.
