GUERNSEY – When some teachers asked if there was a way to have a program that integrates math with various trades, Guernsey-Sunrise School principal and curriculum director, Liesl Sisson, helped find a way to make it happen.

PLATTE COUNTY — The Platte County Historical Society will host a talk by John Voight on Tuesday, February 27th at the Platte County Library. The free program will begin at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

WHEATLAND — House Representative Jeremy Haroldson (R) is slated to attend the 67th Legislative sessions in Cheyenne this week, but took time to address the Platte County Commissioners last Tuesday.

WHEATLAND – There’s good news for individuals who worked as a laborer in any ag-related field from January 20, 2020 through May 11, 2023. A $600 gift card is being offered to offer relief to people who worked in agriculture during the pandemic. The program is called the Farm and Food Workers Relief Grant Program and is being offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

GUERNSEY – The Platte County Sheriff’s Department investigated Tri-City Parks and Recreation in Guernsey after they were contacted about possible embezzlement on November 21, 2023. After gathering information about the allegations, talking with TCPR board members and researching TCPR’s records and bank statements, the case was closed mid-December with the determination no embezzlement took place.

CHUGWATER — A quorum was established by the skin of its teeth on January 8 due to absences caused by illness, however, the council was able to proceed.

WHEATLAND — The new year came in timidly as we have not seen snow, let alone snow plows as we typically do this time of year. The lack of snow fall, however, allows the Platte County Road & Bridge crew to handle needed road repairs, address vehicle maintenance, and finish up life-cycle estimations for equipment. According to Road & Bridge department head Chris Bookout, he is establishing a 10-year plan for maintenance and replacement of county vehicles.

WHEATLAND — Congresswoman Harriet Hageman visited the bi-weekly Platte County Commissioner’s meeting on Tuesday after a long absence from Wyoming, stating she had not visited the state since January 2023. “It is wonderful to be back in Wyoming; things have been interesting in Washington, D.C. and congress, and I am so honored to represent the state of Wyoming and the interests of all the citizens here,” she said. “I wanted to share with you some of my most important priorities in protecting our oil, gas, and coal resources and protecting ranchers’ grazing rights in small communities.”

GUERNSEY — Lake Guernsey VFW Post 4471 is proud to announce the Post and District 5 winners of the 2023-24 Patriot’s Pen, Voice of Democracy, and Smart/Maher Citizenship Education Teacher Award contests. CHUGWATER — While the 6th Penny Tax was voted in for the relief of necessary infrastructure, water, and sewer repairs, the pre-existing well and sewer concerns are still taking a front seat in determining the well-being of waste, potable, and emergency water resources in Chugwater.

PLATTE COUNTY — Rural residents in Platte County, as well as residents of Chugwater, will see an increase in electric utility bills through the Wheatland Rural Electric Association (WREA).
