WHS girls place in four events

CASPER – Led by Khayla Otero, who placed in two individual events, the Wheatland Lady Bulldogs picked up points in four events at the Natrona Invite in Casper on Friday, finishing 12th in the team standings.

Otero finished the day with two fourth-place finishes, with one on the track and the other in the field. In the long jump, she cleared 15 feet, 2.25 inches to snag the fourth slot. With a time of 2:35.48 in the 800-meter run, the Lady Bulldog again took fourth.

Also on the track, Kaesha Davis snagged eighth in the 1600 with a time of 6:35.56. Joining Davis and Otero in the distance events, Katie Currier finished 20th in the 800 with a time of 2:55.01.

Currier also finished 14th in the 400, clocking a time of 1:12.28. Otero was on the outside looking in at the placing positions in the 100, turning in a time of 13.96 seconds to finish 11th. Fellow Lady Bulldogs Natalie Iacovetto and Haylee Kenison turned in times of 14.97 seconds and 15.11 seconds to finish 40th and 45th, respectively.

Iacovetto and Kenison were joined by Christina Haroldson and Hollie Kenison for the 400-meter relay, finishing eighth with a time of 59.01 seconds.

Haroldson also competed in field events, finishing 10th in the pole vault after clearing 6 feet, 6 inches. She also finished 32nd in the long jump with a jump of 12 feet, 3.5 inches. Hollie Kenison snagged 27th in the long jump (13 feet, 0.25 inches), while Haylee Kenison finished 32nd (12 feet, 6.5 inches).

In the throwing events, Rory Anderson turned in a put of 25 feet, 9 inches to take 34th in the shot put. Iacovetto had a 24-foot, 2-inch effort in the shot put, earning her 44th. In the discus, she finished 47th with a throw of 60 feet, 9 inches.

As a team, Wheatland racked up 12 team points to finish 12th, just ahead of Glenrock and Saratoga, who had 11 points apiece. Thunder Basin’s 145 points edged out Kelly Walsh’s 141.5 points for the team title. Natrona County took the third spot with 112 points.

The Lady Bulldogs are set to continue their season Thursday at an invitational at Cheyenne South High School.
