WHEATLAND – In large part due to three seniors in double-figures, the Torrington Lady Trailblazers picked up a 59-41 win on the road Friday against quadrant opponent Wheatland.

The Lady Blazers took control in the first frame, taking a 16-11 lead after the first eight minutes of action. Torrington replicated its scoring in the second quarter, putting up another 16 points, while Wheatland also upped its scoring output to 13 points. The two teams went into halftime with the halftime score sitting at 32-24 in favor of the Lady Blazers.

The Lady Bulldogs came back to the floor and started chipping away at the lead, outscoring Torrington 12-9 in the third to bring the score to within three, but 18 points in the fourth quarter by the Lady Blazers closed the door on the game, with Wheatland only netting five points in the fourth.

Logan Murphy was the top scorer for the Lady Blazers, netting 17 points, including nine from the free-throw line. She also had nine boards, four steals and a block.

Taylor Walsh was not far behind, pouring in 15 points, including six from behind the arc. Walsh had a rebound, an assist and paced the Lady Blazers with eight steals. Adia Sherbeyn finished her night with a double-double, tallying 12 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and six steals.

For the Lady Bulldogs, Khayla Otero led the way with 12 points and eight boards. Miranda Hanks notched 10 boards on the night to tie for the team-lead in rebounding, while also accounting for nine points. Jodi Stevenson was the other Wheatland girl with 10 rebounds.

Loren Mann accounted for eight points and seven rebounds, while Destiny Cook rounded out the top contributors with six points and five rebounds.

Alliance, Neb. 71, Wheatland 27

On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs hosted Alliance and suffered their second loss in a row, 71-27.

Danielle Brow led Wheatland in scoring, with six points, while coming down with seven rebounds. Stevenson was big on the boards again, filling her stat line with eight rebounds and three points. Hanks and Otero each had four points on the night.

The back-to-back losses drop the Lady Bulldogs to 2-10 on the year. Their 1-2 record against quadrant puts them third in the standings behind Douglas and Torrington, but ahead of Newcastle. Wheatland will look to improve their quadrant record Friday when they hit the road for a rematch against the Lady Dogies, a team the Lady Bulldogs beat 50-46 on Jan. 13.
