WHS boys sixth, girls seventh at Wiseman

TORRINGTON – Fourteen Wheatland Bulldogs placed in the top-eight Friday at the Wiseman Invitational in Torrington, with the boys taking sixth and the girls sliding to seventh in the standings.
Roman Smith continued his domination on the track. He won the 100-meter dash, finishing in 11.20 seconds. He also secured first in the 200, clocking a time of 22.71 seconds.
Smith also competed in two relays, anchoring Wheatland’s 400-meter relay team, which was comprised of Dylan Pearson, Joey Madsen and Simone Mainetti, that finished sixth with a time of 45.84 seconds. Mainetti and Smith were both joined by Kobey Preuit and Trigg Peasely for the 1600-meter sprint medley, turning in a time of 3:52.62 to finish third.
Preuit took sixth in the 400 with a time of 53.76 seconds.
Pearson continued his solid day into the field events. He snagged second in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 3 inches. He also had a 39-foot, 3.25-inch effort in the triple jump, taking seventh.
The Bulldog boys finished with 42 points on the day to take sixth. Cheyenne East secured the top spot with 156 points. Laramie’s 147 points and Cheyenne Central’s 123 points rounded out the top-three teams.

Girls
The Lady Bulldogs’ best finish of the day came in the 3200-meter relay, where Danielle Brow, Katie Currier, Halle Smith and Khayla Otero combined for a time of 11:08.04, finishing third. Brow also took fourth in the 3200-meter run, clocking a time of 13:26.82. Otero also had success in an individual event, finishing eighth in the 400 with a time of 1:08.80.
Rounding out the top-eight track performances, Cali Moody, Natalie Iacovetto and Halley and Holly Kennison turned in a time of 57.70 seconds in the 400-meter relay, finishing seventh.

Christina Haroldson snagged a seventh-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 8 feet, 1 inch. In the high jump, Halle Smith, with a 4-foot, 9-inch effort, and Elly Smith, with a 4-foot, 7-inch effort, took seventh and eighth, respectively.
Wheatland amassed 18.5 points to stand seventh in the team race. Cheyenne Central ran away with the girls title, racking up 240 points. Laramie (165.5) and Gering, Neb. (83) rounded out the top-three.
The Bulldogs return to action for the postseason, starting with the 3A East Regional Invitational this weekend in Douglas.
