Nine of the 13 state’s Clay Target League teams were in attendance at the state competition.

TORRINGTON – Nearly 120 high school trap shooters took part in the third annual Wyoming State High School Clay Target League State Championship Saturday at the Goshen County Sportsman Club.
Nine of the 13 state’s Clay Target League teams were in attendance at the state competition.
Area shooters from the Wheatland and Chugwater teams were well represented in the top results. Wheatland finished third with 441, while Chugwater was ninth with 247.
“We’ve had first the last two years, but we did take third,” Wheatland coach Angie Kernan said. “We have grown from three teams three years ago to 13 teams this year, which I think is amazing.”
Cheyenne East High School won the state title with 452, beating out Campbell County with 442, who finished second.
Hunter Call lead the way for Wheatland. He finished third in the varsity division with a score of 92. Christian Miller tied for fifth with a 90. Miller along with Matthew Wakkuri joined the 25-straight club at the state meet.
Zeke Wardell led Wheatland in the junior varsity division, finishing tied for 10th with 76.
For Chugwater, Ethan Van Why led the boys’ novice division with tied for fifth with 73, while Megan Sagner finished sixth in the female novice division.
“I’m so proud of all the kids that shot that day,” Kernan said. “Everybody had a great time...all the teams did wonderful. We are going to do it again next year. It was a great day.”
