The new Wheatland Waste Transfer Station is now open for business.

The transfer station opened on April 1 and is located at 199 Y-O Ranch Road. It is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. There is a new indoor facility, so there should be no closures due to weather.
Those at the facility plan to continue using the local landfill until it is full, before beginning to transfer waste to the Torrington landfill.
Within the facility are several separate recycling departments for easy organization. For example, one space dedicated to just bottles, another for just cans, just paper, etc. A full list of what is or is not accepted can be found at Town Hall or on their website, www.townofwheatlandwy.org.
The town of Wheatland and the county Chamber hosted a community mixer at the transfer station on Thursday, June 15. It was used as a way for the community to see the new facility and meet people representing other local businesses. The Pie Tin provided catering and Quality Discount Liquor sponsored all refreshments, including lemonade and tea for those who were underage.  Door prizes were also given away, including a cutlery picnic bag donated by the Wheatland Country Store, as well as a town of Wheatland beanie and a cutting board set, both donated by the Town of Wheatland.
