LARAMIE — Wheatland High School’s Raegan Harnish is among 90 talented rising Wyoming juniors selected to participate in the 33rd annual Summer High School Institute June 10-30 at the University of Wyoming, a news release issued May 24 by UW reports.
The students were selected from high schools across Wyoming. UW offers the students an opportunity to achieve intellectual and personal growth, cultivate their leadership capabilities and measure their capacities and interests.
UW faculty members will conduct problem-centered classes ranging from philosophy to DNA, and robotics to agriculture.
The three-week experience also will include athletic activities, talent shows, picnics, dances, an HSI 5K Color Run, random acts of kindness, guest speakers, attendance at local concerts and plays, visits to museums and enrichment excursions.
High school administrators, counselors and teachers guided students through the application process. Selections were based on an application letter, an essay, two letters of recommendation, academic performance and extracurricular activity involvement.
Begun in 1985, the HSI program is sponsored by UW, with special funding from the Wyoming state Legislature.
In addition to Harnish, other participants, listed by their high schools, are:
Big Horn High School — Rowan Kelly.
Big Piney High School — Cade Anderson and Rachel Foster.
Buffalo High School — Levi Seidel.
Campbell County High School — Charles Princen and Christian Skiles.
Central High School (Cheyenne) — Kyla Bush and Sinead Knepper.
Cody High School — Meg Burkhart.
Douglas High School — Shayla Moore, Joslynn Sauer and Britten Young.
