Wheatland hosts high school rodeo

Kavin Hoff was one of the high school students participating in the saddle bronc riding competition. The horse was a bit more than Hoff had anticipated and he got his feet tangled up in the ropes, dragging him for about 10 feet.

The Wyoming High School Rodeo Association sanctioned what amounted to a conference tournament in Wheatland. The Wheatland High School Rodeo ran from Sept. 24-26 at the Platte County Fairgrounds.

Events that showcased high school athletes were trap shooting, light rifle, breakaway roping, team roping, tie-down calf roping, steer wrestling, bareback riding, saddle bronc, bull riding, barrel racing, goat tying and pole bending.

Seniors Bobijo Cordingly, Rayne Grant and Rodee Brow were honored with their parents at a special recognition ceremony preceding the Sunday events.

Wheatland Junior and senior high school rodeo team members include: Dayton Tillman, Matthew Wakkuri, Bobijo Cordingly, Rayne Grant, Rylee Griffis, Jadea Graves, Jessie Graves, Madison McIntosh, Rodee Brow and Ella Keil.

The three-day event had activity going on in both the large and the small arenas at the fairgrounds.
