WHEATLAND – After a low scoring first half, the Torrington Trailblazers got their offense in gear in the second half on their way to a 43-30 win Friday in Wheatland over the Bulldogs.

Neither team got out of the gates hot, with a lot of empty trips down the floor. By the end of the first quarter, Torrington held a 9-5 lead. After another slow quarter, the Blazers were up 17-12 at intermission over the Bulldogs.

Torrington got its offense moving better in the third quarter, putting up 12 points, while keeping Wheatland to seven points in the fame. The Bulldogs managed to put up 11 points in the fourth to bring their total to 30, but Torrington’s 14 points in the frame put the game out of reach.

Bryan Lemmon had the highest scoring total in the game, pouring in 16 points, with five coming from the charity stripe and another three from behind the arc. He rounded out his stat line with six rebounds, a steal and team-highs in assists (3) and blocks (3).

Jared Lemmon was not far behind his brother, piling up nine points for Torrington, while leading the Blazers with 15 rebounds and adding an assist and two steals to his stat line. Jordan Malm rounded out the top scorers for Torrington, with eight points to his credit, which he paired with five boards, an assist, two steals and a block.

For the Bulldogs, Trigg Peasley was the top scorer with eight points on three buckets and two free throws. He added nine rebounds to his stat line. Zac Gunter accounted for six points on two three-pointers, while Clayton Iacovetto had four points. Trevor Vaughn, Kobey Preuit, who had four rebounds, and Justin Lema had three points apiece and Jamison Brown and Mytch Pollock combined for three points.

Alliance, Neb. 59, Wheatland 50

On Saturday, Wheatland faced the Alliance, Neb. Bulldogs. Alliance had defeated Gering, Neb. twice this season, a team that dominated the Wheatland Bulldogs this year.

Wheatland would be heavy underdogs but came out with aggressive defense that flustered the Alliance shooters. Wheatland was down 37-25 at half but was much more efficient on the offensive end in the second half. Wheatland would outscore Alliance 25-22 in the second half. They closed the game to within 4 points in the fourth period but could not put themselves in a position to take the lead. Wheatland would fall again 59-50.

Wheatland had their best offensive game in six weeks with very balanced scoring. Preuit led Wheatland with 10 points, Luke Anderson with eight, Vaughn and Peasley with seven apiece. Peasley also pulled down seven boards and Colton Caves would pull in five.

Wheatland (3-10) looks to build on some offensive success this weekend as they enter the second half of conference play Friday at 7 p.m. at the Newcastle Dogie Dome.
