CASPER – The High Plains Thunder Wrestling team competed at the Wyoming Amateur Wrestling Association State Wrestling Tournament April 12-14 in Casper.
The team had 12 kids wrestle throughout the weekend. They were Coy Robertson, Grady Bohlander, Sawyer Adams, Braxton Delay, Tanner Delay, Keen Huston, Steven Reece, Bryce Robinette, Josiah Ockinga, Tripp Vigil, Colby Milnes, and Hayden Unrein.
For the Freestyle portion of the tournament 10 kids wrestled which were Robertson, Bohlander, Adams, B. Delay, T. Delay, Huston, Reece, Robinette, Ockinga, and Vigil. Each wrestler competed well and in the process crowned two champions in Robertson and Bohlander while Adams placed third and B. Delay and T. Delay both placed fourth.
All 12 wrestlers competed in Folkstyle. Again, Robertson and Bohlander were champions while T. Delay placed fourth and Unrein fifth. As a group, the Thunder were also crowned Folkstyle Small Team Champions.
In the last day of action, High Plains had six wrestlers battle it out in Greco placing all six. T. Delay and Vigil finished fourth, Adams and B. Delay third, Robertson second, and Bohlander was crowned champion earning his spot as Wheatland’s first Triple Crown Champion by winning all three styles.
It was a great weekend of wrestling and the coaches are very happy with the way all the kids competed all season. Having Bohlander win Wheatland’s first Triple Crown at State, Robertson only losing one match all season, the team winning a State Title, placing 15 kids at the State Tournament amongst many other tournament placings. It just goes to show the work the kids, families and community have put in to the High Plains Thunder Wrestling program. The club would like to thank you all, and we look forward to another great season next year.
