‘The Frederick’ raises biggest scholarship amount in tournament history

GUERNSEY – There was plenty of traffic up and down highway 26 in Guernsey this past weekend, but most were tourists stopping to fill up their campers with gas. The rest of the landscape within city limits looked like a ghost town until you passed the bridge on south Wyoming street and found a conglomeration of cars, campers, trucks, motorcycles… and golf carts.

The Frederick Memorial Golf Tournament, or “The Frederick” as some have come to call it took it’s regular time slot at the Trail Ruts Golf Course on the second weekend in August. It has been as regular as clockwork for the past 26 years.

This year the tournament raised more money for local high school scholarships than any of the previous year’s tournaments. According to Mable Frederick, the Calcutta brought in $20,320 and over $11k was raised for scholarships with money coming in from the Calcutta and from donations.

The activities for the weekend included a dinner and Calcutta Friday night, golf tournament on Saturday and Sunday and a dinner and scholarship presentation on Saturday night.
