WHEATLAND — The Republican Party of Platte County hosts a candidate meet and greet event Thursday at the 4-H Building at the fairgrounds featuring Republicans running for state offices.
Lu Lay, Republican Party of Platte County vice chair and secretary, said during an interview May 2 that all seven gubernatorial candidates are anticipated to attend, as well as most of the Republican candidates for the state offices up for election this year.
“Sounds to me like we’re gonna have a good turnout,” Lay said. “It’s designed to highlight the governors because it’s such a crowded field.”
Republicans running in the field are Harriet Hageman, Mark Gordon, Sam Galeotos, Taylor Haynes, Rex Rammell, Foster Friess and Bill Dahlin.

“I think it will be a very informative evening and hope to get everybody out to it,” Lay said.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for meet and greet with the candidates. Dinner starts at 6 p.m.
“We’re gonna fire up some hamburgers with all the fixings … and have brownie sundaes for dessert,” Lay said.
She said there is no charge to attend and partake, but donations for the party will be accepted at the event.
Candidates start speaking at 7 p.m. Lay said each gubernatorial candidate will have 7 minutes to speak, and candidates for other state offices will have 5 minutes apiece.
Lay said county and city candidates will be there too, but the main focus is the governor’s office and state seats. She said the party will hold another forum for local candidates later in the fall. That event is yet to be scheduled.
Lay said the Republicans will start a raffle for a Traeger grill. Tickets are $10 each or 12 for $100. The drawing for the grill is scheduled for Father’s Day, June 17.
According to the state Republican Party website, www.wyoming.gop, other Republicans running are Leland Christensen and Curt Meier for state treasurer; Nathan Winters and Kristi Racines for state auditor; and Jillian Balow for superintendent of public instruction.
