Funeral services for Sherman Leroy Martin, 84, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Hartville with Reverend Rex Martin and Reverend Bill Walker officiating.  Interment will be held at the Boothill Cemetery near Hartville.
Sherman Martin passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16 at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland surrounded by his loving family.
Sherman was born on Friday, Oct. 12, 1934 to Harley Clifford and Nellie May (McCormick) Martin, the third of six children. He grew up in the ranching area near Glendo, Wyoming. As a kid, he started helping the neighbors brand, calve, sheer sheep, and put up hay.
He graduated from Glendo High School in 1955. He then went to work at the Glendo Dam when they started building it. When he was through there, he married Daylene Sudbury and went to work for CF&I in Sunrise, Wyoming. They raised four beautiful kids, Rex, Dan, Joni Kay, and Leann. Between the four of them they gave us eight grandchildren.
Sherman stayed at CF&I until it closed in 1981. He was never without work; he also had cattle, sheep, and mohair goats.
As a young man, he rodeoed all over, bareback and bulls were his events and he was good at it.
Sherman leaves his wife, Daylene Martin of Guernsey; four children, Rex (Rhonda) Martin, Dan Martin, Joni Kay (Wayne) Perkins, and Leann (Rob) Starr all of Guernsey; grandchildren, Craig (Crystal) Martin, Kayla (Eric) Bohlander, Barbie (Zane) Townsend, Katie (Cody) Conner, Houston (Julie) Martin, Colt Perkins, Danielle Starr, and Brittney Perkins; eleven great grandchildren; and two sisters, Doreen (Don) Kraft of Lusk and Mary Foy of Rawlins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harly Martin on March 31, 1995; mother, Nellie Martin on Feb. 20, 1993; brothers, Donald Martin on Aug. 29, 2004, Albert Martin on Sept. 25, 2015, and Calvin Martin on Dec. 3, 2017; nephew, Wade Martin on Nov. 27, 2012; and daughter-in-law, Janet Martin on Feb. 15, 2003.
He loved his kids and took them with him and taught them to hunt, even his girls, who loved it. They hunted racoons, bobcats, mountain lions, and anything else they could think of.
His family loved him with their whole hearts and always will.
And now they lay him to rest close to the hills he loved.
Serving as pallbearers will be Craig Martin, Colt Perkins, Houston Martin, Cody Conner, Eric Bohlander, and Zane Townsend.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Matt Martin and Pete Howes.
A memorial to the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, PO Box 64, Hartville, WY 82215 would be appreciated by the family.
