CHEYENNE — A non-compliant sex offender from Chugwater was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service last weekend following a lengthy fugitive investigation spanning several states and jurisdictions, according to a news release issued by the U.S. Marshals.
Paul Daniel Hatcher, 58, was arrested in Fairfield, California, over the weekend. According to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation sex offender website, Hatcher was convicted in March 1996 of unlawful sex with a minor under age 18.
The Laramie County Sheriff’s Department had issued an arrest warrant for Hatcher in June, alleging five new counts of sexual abuse on children. In July, the sheriff’s department requested assistance from the Marshals Service to find Hatcher.
U.S. Marshal Senior Inspector Dennis Conmay reported the investigation followed Hatcher through several states including Oklahoma, Washington, Oregon and California. Investigators believed he was taking active measures to avoid detection and arrest. Information showed Hatcher was in the area of Fairfield, where U.S. Marshals Fugitive Taskforce Officers were able to locate and arrest him.
The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Taskforce is a network of state, local and federal law enforcement agencies dedicated to fugitive apprehension. The U.S. Marshals Service for the District of Wyoming is in charge of the Wyoming Fugitive Taskforce and comprises several Wyoming county sheriff’s agencies.
