Second annual Women in Ag Symposium held in Wheatland

WHEATLAND - The Second Annual Women in Ag Symposium was held Saturday in Wheatland.

“It was intended to be inspiring to those in 4H who were looking to make ag their future, but it was more,” said Dixie Mount. “The three amazing presenters were interesting, engaging and honest.”

Elaine McCallum Daly shared about her path to a career in GIS and how being on the cutting edge gets her up in the mornings.

“Don't we all want that for ourselves and our youth,” asked Mount. “Her talk was invigorating! I wanted to know more.”

Melinda Sims told about not being born on to an Ag operation, but she got there as soon as she could. She shared that she has always felt her quest for learning, led her to some of the best situations.

“She encouraged relationship building, and I wanted to hug her for that,” Mount said. “Build relationships! That is the best advice I have ever heard for me, for you and for our youth.

“Jen Reyes Burr capped off the formal presentations with two points that I whole heartedly agreed with... ‘in Ag, the end goal is feeding people.’ How true is that? There are a lot of operations out there, but that is really what it is about, feeding people. The second was, ‘if you want to know, ask. You might look stupid, but you learned.’ Why couldn't I have understood that when I was younger? I thought about jumping up and clapping right then! The take home message from today: follow your passion, make connections and learn!”
