Second annual turkey trot held at Lewis Park

Posted

WHEATLAND – The weather looks to be a bit cold this coming Saturday, but nothing the hardy Wyoming runners of the turkey trot aren’t willing to tackle.

Races that are run near Thanksgiving or Christmas above the frost line are usually very cold and the weather can be adverse, but in 45-degree weather Wheatland it may be optimal weather for the trot.

Last year was the first of its kind here in Wheatland and sponsored by Banner Health Platte Memorial Hospital.

“Our very first one had 70 people that came out to run, that was huge,” said Banner Health employee Jacob Lee. “The big reason for doing this is to help the community get out and be more active. I am a physical therapist at the hospital and I am passionate about being active and healthy and thought that doing something like this can help us get out, to encourage health and activity and to support one another in our community.”

Active and healthy and great weather is hoping to bring out the large crowds this weekend. Some will run, some will walk, some will push strollers and some will run with their pet. The racers should begin gathering at 9:30 in Lewis Park to be warmed up for the race that will start at 10 a.m.

You can still register for the race at: www.runreg.com/turkey-trot-5K

All participants will be entered in a drawing to win a free turkey. Door prizes and multiple turkeys will also be given out.

The course will start at Lewis Park and run south on 8th street, turning  on to Cole Street, turning on to Oak Street and turning back on to 8th Street, finishing back at Lewis Park.
