A funeral service will be held for Ruth Marcella “Toots” Metcalf, 91 at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28 at the Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel in Wheatland with Pastor Casey Schroeder of the First Christian Church officiating. Interment will be in the Wheatland Cemetery.
Ruth Metcalf entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Arvada Care and Rehabilitation Center in Arvada, Colo. after a brief illness.
She was born Thursday, Nov. 7, 1929 in Sunrise, the daughter of Julius William and Freda (Hohnholt) Miller. As a small child her family moved to a farm east of Dwyer where she was raised.  She took great pride in being a “Belle of the Wheatfield” and took great joy in working beside her father and brothers in the fields.  She and her siblings walked to school in Dwyer attending the one room school house there. She graduated from Guernsey High School in 1948.  She met the love of her life, Ronald Leslie “Ronnie” Metcalf while attending a dance at the “Blue Moon Dance Hall” in Guernsey.
They married Jan. 31, 1949 in Scottsbluff, Neb. Their early life brought many challenges to a young couple, but they held on to their dreams and brought three boys into this world. They settled in Denver, Colo. in 1956. But the call of Wyoming brought them back, when Ronnie retired in 1995.
Toots loved sewing, quilting, baking, and fast cars.
Following Ronnie’s death in 2004, Toots stayed in Cheyenne until 2018. She moved back to Denver to be closer to family, but her heart remained in Wyoming.
She was preceded in death by her father, Julius, on Dec. 11, 1965; mother, Freda, on Nov. 14, 1978; husband, Ronnie, on Jan. 16, 2004; son Jack Metcalf in 2012; and seven siblings, infant brother and sister, G.O. Miller, Alvin Miller, Cecil Miller, Vivian Hytrek, and Julietta Hardy.
She leaves her memory to Les and Sheree Metcalf of Lakewood, Colo.; Loren and Peggy Metcalf of Westminster, Colo.; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
Serving as pallbearers will be les Metcalf, Loren Metcalf, Cody Metcalf, Austin Metcalf, Gary Miller, and Larry Hobbs.
The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.
