Reader has question for Judy Baus about working out salvation

Posted

Dear Judy
I have heard many different things concerning working out my salvation. When I was born again I received salvation which is free because of Jesus, so what is this working out? What does this mean?
Dear Confused,

The Scripture you are referring to is Philippians 2:12: Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. When you were born again you received your salvation. You are now a new creation in Christ and you have the life of God living in you. The Holy Spirit now lives in you to help you live this new life in Christ. Your spirit man is new but your soulish realm (mind, will, emotion) have not changed.
To get our soulish realm changed we must now get in the Word and see how to do that. Romans 12:2 says And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Once we are children of God, we are not to look, act, or speak as the world does, but we are to get in the Word of God and allow His words to change us day by day into the image of Christ.
With a renewed mind with the word of God, we can live our lives in the light of our salvation. This allows His working on the inside of us to work on the outside of us. Work out refers to allowing your salvation to come from the inside and working in your mind, will and emotions.
