Platte Valley Bank appreciates customers with dinner

Posted

WHEATLAND – The local Platte Valley Bank customer appreciation dinner saw hundreds pack the Platte County Agriplex last Thursday night.

For two years, due to COVID regulations the planned customer appreciation dinner had to be canceled which included last year’s dinner which was canceled on the day of the planned event due to an alleged COVID spike.

“We’ve had one of these each year for probably the past 20 years,” said Platte Valley Bank president Justin Murphy. “It used to be at the bank and then when it got bigger, we moved out here to the old 4-H building before the Agriplex.”

Although it has been held out at the fairgrounds for the past 10 years, the last two years, again, were nonexistent due to COVID.

“I think there are a couple of hundred right now, and we didn’t know what to expect,” Murphy said. “I think in the past we planned for 350.  Some will stay and visit and some will eat and leave, and although we run it from 5:30 to 7:30, people can stay as long as they like.”

Banks usually run appreciation nights for their customers and Platte Valley Bank is no different not only offering a free dinner, but also having numerous door prizes and giveaways including gift baskets, cooking utensils and other cool stuff.

“It’s our way of saying thank you,” Murphy said. “We serve a hog that we bought at the fair and if it gets big enough we’ll buy two hogs. We bought six hogs this year but the hog that we’re serving tonight was purchased from Quincy Palmer.”

H’s Custom Cuts was the meat processing plant that put the rush on the hog processing and had it ready for cooking at the Agriplex.

“People are winding down from the fairs and starting school and whether it’s good timing or what, but we do it at this time of year because we have the hog from the fair,” Murphy said. “In the past it’s been hugely Platte Valley Bank and this year it’s also J.G. Elliott who is also participating, our affiliate. CH Brown’s not here but they’re a part of us, so we’d like to thank them as they are a part of our team. We’re not here to sell anything, but obviously if they have questions, we will answer them but we’re not here to promote us, we are here to promote them. It’s all about the customer.”
